Return to Social Work Programme
Return to Social Work is a new national initiative it allows those who have been out of Social Care practice for 2-10 years and who wants to return to the profession an opportunity to get back to the profession.
Those who want to return to Social Work after a period away can find it tough, but with the right support returning Social Workers can regain the confidence, experience
and knowledge they need to get back to making a difference to people’s lives.
The Return to Social Work programme, developed by the Local Government Association and the Government Equalities Office, provides this support through hands on work placements, specialist training, comprehensive coaching, and mentoring – all completely free.
Once registered on the programme and ready to re-enter the workplace, the programme will even help candidates prepare for their interviews.
Returning couldn’t be simpler. To ensure nobody misses out on this
opportunity, please tell people to visit our website for more information and
to apply.
If you have any questions drop the LGC an email at returntosocialwork@local.gov.uk and then will do their best to support you.

Return to Occupational Therapy
Have you been a registered Occupational Therapist who has been out of the profession for 2 years or more?
There maybe an opportunity for you to access free advice, guidance and support to return to practice and register.
The Return to OT programme will provide you with mentoring, additional experience through placements and key support to return to an occupational therapy setting.
Here at Sefton we have supported staff through the programme and they have been successful in gaining an Occupational Therapy post to continue the good work they started within their placement.
Below is a short testimonial from one of our brilliant team who has completed the programme :
I just wanted to share my experience with you, return to OT practice sounded daunting to me but has been so rewarding in the end.
I qualified as an OT in 2014 and returned to the profession in 2024. It was a substantial interval of time.
There is so much support on the way to guide you - websites of HCPC, RCOT and HEE. I also joined a social media group of others going through the same programme which made me feel I wasn’t alone.
Now looking back the journey of returning to the OT profession, I feel it was a great achievement in my life to overcome the obstacles and I am so proud to call myself an occupational therapist again.
If I could do it, so can you!
