Salt and Tar’s Comedy Weekender is back, with a star-studded line up that is sure to keep the audience laughing.
The event will take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend, running from Thursday 25th to Sunday 26th May. Tickets start from just £5 and the weekend promises to have something for the whole family.
Something for everyone
Gary Delaney and Brennan Reece, alongside local comic Katie Tracey will appear on the Friday, with Bingo Nights UK’s Disco Bingo taking to the stage on Saturday night, followed by Seann Walsh, Peter Rethinasamy and Hal Cruttenden on the Sunday.
During the daytime, Salt and Tar will be home to plenty of family-fun, with Comedy Bingo hosted by local comedian Brendan Riley and Britain’s Got Talent Finalist Steve Royle performing on the Saturday, and John Harding’s Magic Show and a second helping of Comedy Bingo on Sunday.
New to this year’s programme, there will also be a special Bootle Stands Up Comedy Workshop showcase. The showcase will see ten individuals take part in a six-week comedy course, ending with a special performance, opening the event on the Thursday. The opening night will be sponsored by local company Dowhigh Ltd, with all proceeds going to Sefton charity Ykids.
Successful events
Cllr Christine Howard, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills said: “Last year’s comedy event was a brilliant success and, following the event, we received lots of positive feedback that highlighted what a hit it was.
“The acts this year are sure to draw a fantastic crowd and make it another successful weekend for us.
“There is lots of work taking place in Bootle and we have high ambitions for the regeneration of the town centre. Salt and Tar has already demonstrated that it is a highlight of the town with a number of fantastic events and plenty more to come.”
In the past year, Salt and Tar has seen a successful run of events, including last year’s Comedy Weekender, which brought top comedians Jo Caulfield, Chris McCausland and Jason Byrne to Bootle.
The venue space boasts a full programme of events to be released for 2024, including the second year of its Music Weekender, which will see Sir Tom Jones and rock legends Status Quo take the stage in August.
Future plans
It was announced last week that Big Comedy UK were awarded a three-year contract to run the Salt and Tar Comedy Weekender. The team have already established themselves in the north of the Borough, hosting the annual Southport Comedy Festival.
Bren Riley of Big Comedy UK said: “We are really excited to have been awarded the contract to organise the Comedy Weekender in Bootle for the next three years.
“Last year was the first time the event happened and it was an amazing success. It was a really special atmosphere.
“We hosted some superb acts, and it was fantastic to see so many people from Bootle, and beyond, having such a great time.
“Salt & Tar is a brilliant new events space with so much potential, which is really putting Bootle on the map.”
