Sefton Council has congratulated all A-Level, T-Level, BTEC and GCSE students for their fantastic results in their exams!  

The Council has highlighted their cared for students for specific praise this year as this year’s students have bucked the national trend with record numbers off to university and some incredible results for our cared for students.

Like any proud parent, the Council have been congratulating students on their achievements, with many overcoming personal challenges and showing real determination and drive. Four young people passed a total of 8 GCSEs and seven young people passed 9 or more GCSES. A special mention goes to one young person who passed 11 GCSEs including 7 grade 9’S!

All of those cared for students who applied for university secured a place and are heading off to do courses including Sport Physiotherapy, Criminology, Creative Writing and Zoology. One young person has the extra accolade of being the first Sefton care experienced person to attend Cambridge University.

Cllr Diane Roscoe, Cabinet Member for Schools, Children and Families said:

“We are so proud of our young people here in Sefton who have had some fantastic results in their exams!

“Parents, carers and families up and down the country are glowing with pride at the achievements of their children and as a corporate parent, Sefton Council is no different. Everyone in our Sefton family is so proud of what our young people have achieved.

More and more of our care experienced young people are feeling confident and supported enough to go to university or start exciting, new careers and I can’t wait to see what the future holds next for our talented young people.”

This year, Sefton has seen 7 of its Year 13 students gain a place at university. At 10%, this represents a significantly higher percentage than the national average of 6% of care experienced 18-year-olds. These results mark a big step forward in the Council’s championing of the aspirations of young people and shows the incredible hard work and determination of the students themselves.

The Sefton Virtual School team and social care professionals who work alongside school colleagues have seen the numbers of young people going to university grow quickly from 1 in 2022 to 7 this year and they look forward to supporting even more young people to access Higher Education.

“Young people in Sefton have done incredibly well and should be immensely proud of themselves. The journey and the hard work all our young people put in to completing their exams is worthy of celebration and every result and effort is valued.

“I want to thank all the teachers, school staff, social workers, parents, carers and everyone else who have supported our children and young people through the exam season. I know they will be just as proud as I am!

“Many of our care experienced young people have faced challenges and obstacles, which makes their achievements even more impressive. They have done extremely well this year and are heading off for exciting new challenges and they can be sure that we will continue to support them as they start their next adventure.”
