Communities across Sefton and beyond are being invited to have their say on future improvements to a vital stretch of highway in the Borough.

Sefton Council are urging cyclists, pedestrians and motorists, as well as local businesses, to give their views on the scheme to improve transport links for everyone who uses the Maritime Corridor in South Sefton.

The Maritime Corridor is the area spanning from Switch Island to Netherton Way (A5038), forming a key part of the network that connects Atlantic Park to the Port of Liverpool and further afield.

Now a proposed scheme put forward by Sefton Council looks to improve the Maritime Corridor, including the reduction of congestion, improved travel time and enhanced access for residents, visitors and businesses.

A public consultation has now been launched and will run until October 26th, 2023 for people to give their view and feedback on the proposals.

Sefton Council will capture feedback from communities and incorporate them into the proposed plans while funding is sought.

Councillor John Fairclough, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Locality Services, said: “We want to support our Sefton 2030 Vision by improving our streets and transport network throughout the whole of the Sefton Borough. We want to make it easier for everyone to move around the area and to improve links to the region and beyond, opening up opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors.

In order to achieve this wider approach, the Maritime Corridor improvement scheme will look to address connectivity and accessible issues by reducing congestion, improving journey times and providing a connected active travel routes for those who want to sustainably travel, unlocking the areas economic potential.

The planned junction improvements and active travel routes have been further developed following the initial consultation with local residents, businesses and wider pubic in Spring 2021. Therefore, we are encouraging all residents and businesses to use this consultation period to give their views on the revised scheme designs.”

All feedback will be reviewed and considered in the development of the next stages of the scheme. Following this, a report will be produced summarising the consultation feedback and next stages of the scheme and will be made available on Sefton Council’s website.
