Sefton Council wants to remind residents and visitors of the Coastal and Visitor Area Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) which remains in place all year round.

The order supports the Council and partner agencies in managing visitor behaviour and protecting our 22 miles of natural coastline and other popular visitor areas.

The PSPO covers activities such as littering, pollution, fires and BBQs, dog fouling, balloon or lantern releases, vehicle parking, and antisocial behaviour.

There has been a rise in overnight parking, especially at the Weld Road entrance to Southport Beach which is an offence subject to the Coastal and Visitor Area PSPO.

The Order states that overnight stays without written permission of the Council are not permitted at any location in the borough, and a person guilty of an offence under this section is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale or be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75.00.

Furthermore, vehicles that remain will be towed away and disposed of if not retrieved within time limits set by Legislation.

Feedback from local communities, visitors and partner agencies, gained through a public consultation, was used to shape the Order, which is there to protect Sefton’s rare coastal landscapes and vital habitats.
