As GCSE students received their results today Sefton Council has congratulated all the Borough’s students, including those who received A-Levels, T-Levels, B-Tecs and other vocational qualifications outcomes last week.

And it is doing so as a proud corporate parent of all those cared for young people in Sefton who took their exams this summer.

Next Steps

Following last week’s results, many of Sefton’s cared for young people will soon be taking the next steps in their education lives. These include a Law Degree, an NHS High Level Apprenticeship, Mental Health Nursing Degree and a foundation course at Southport College in preparation for a degree in Psychology next year.

Meanwhile, this year’s GCSE students will be headed off to colleges and joining sixth forms for the next stages of their education.

Proud Parent

Like any proud parent, Sefton Council wants to reward the young people in its care for all the hard work they have put in and will be sending them cards and vouchers to say a huge ‘well done!’

Dr Risthardh Hare, Director of Children’s Services said:

“Children and young people in our Borough have done incredibly well and should be immensely proud of themselves.

“I want to thank all the teachers, school staff, social workers, parents, carers and more who have supported our children and young people through exam season. I know they are just as proud as I am.

“Our care experienced young people have done extremely well this year and are heading off for exciting new challenges and they can be sure that we will continue to support them as they start their next adventure.”

Many of the Borough’s cared for young people who took exams this summer will have done so with help of Sefton Virtual School.

Sefton Virtual School promotes and supports the education of all cared for children and young people to ensure that every one of them is able to achieve his or her potential.

Mary Palin, Headteacher of the Virtual School said:

"Results season is a chance to celebrate how far our young people have come, and to recognise the efforts that they have made. I want them to know how proud they make us, not just on this day but every day. Many of our young people have faced challenges and obstacles, which makes their achievements more impressive. But they are not only defined by their care status, or by their exam results: they are defined by their skills, talents, personal qualities, and determination.

"It is our privilege to work with such inspiring and inspirational young people and we look forward to seeing them move towards their bright futures."

“We are so proud of our young people here in Sefton who have had some fantastic results in their A Levels, GCSEs, T Levels, B-Tecs and other qualifications.

“Parents, carers and families up and down the country are glowing with pride today at the achievements of their children and as a corporate parent, Sefton Council is no different. Everyone in our Sefton family is so proud of what our young people have achieved.

“No matter what the result, the hard work that has gone in over the last few months should be celebrated and we can’t wait to see what the future holds next for our talented young people.”
