Sefton Council is urging its army of volunteers and members of the community to pledge to pick one bag of litter - or more - for Keep Britain Tidy’s 10th Great British Spring Clean.

Sefton Council backs the bid to pick litter from the streets, beaches and other public spaces during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s clean-up campaign. To protect our communities and precious wildlife habitats.

We ask people to ensure they are safe when litter picking. For example, people should not litter pick on high-speed roads or on the areas of Crosby beach that have sinking sand. It is essential that people wear suitable footwear and gloves when litter picking.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs until Sunday 6th April is calling for residents across Sefton to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick.

With 22 miles of stunning coastline and numerous parks, volunteers will have plenty of spots from which to choose. Some may think their local high street would benefit from additional litter picking.

Residents and volunteers can organise their own litter pick and collect their bags by making an appointment with one of the waste management team, please email abigail.fantin@sefton.gov.uk to arrange and tell us:

Cllr Peter Harvey, Cabinet Member for Cleansing and Street Scene, said:

“The Great British Spring Clean gives residents, community organisations and businesses the opportunity to make a real difference to the environment. It connects community groups and helps residents to take pride in Sefton. We urge anyone who is interested in the campaign to get in touch if they would like branded Great British Spring Clean bin bags to use for litter picks.”

If people want to go one step further and separate out recyclables, the Council is encouraging people to visit their local recycling centre to drop off their bags.

Details of Sefton’s Formby, Sefton Meadows, Southport and South Sefton Household Waste Recycling Centres are at Local Tips & Recycling Centres.
