Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Highways, Cllr Daren Veidman, has welcomed the announcement that the authority will be receiving over £154,000 of Emergency Homelessness funding.
Cllr Veidman said:
“Unfortunately, there are significant numbers of families and individuals who face the threat of homelessness, which is why we have received this extra funding.
“The extra resources will increase the opportunities we have to intervene help stop evictions and find people secure accommodation.
“And preventing more people reaching crisis point and being on the brink of homelessness or rough sleeping will ease demand in other areas so we can focus on long-term solutions to the problem.”
Homelessness Support
Sefton is one of 295 councils receiving the extra funding, which will help those facing homelessness regain financial stability and stay in their communities with established access to local services and support networks.
Anyone facing homelessness in Sefton can find support and advice at www.sefton.gov.uk/homeless.
Cllr Veidman continued:
“People can find themselves, through no fault of their own, facing eviction for a wide range of reasons, including job loss, health problems, a relationship breakdown or unexpected bill.
“Thanks to this funding, we will be able to step in and support them before they find themselves without a roof over their heads.”
Announcing the funding, Minister for Homelessness, Rushanara Ali said:
“No one should be forced live in constant fear of losing their home and too many people are being pushed to the brink of homelessness as a direct consequence of the system we’ve inherited.
“That’s why I’m providing an extra £30 million in emergency support for councils– taking real, immediate action to stop people falling through the cracks, stay in their homes, and help them rebuild their lives.”
