Sefton Council was one of 85 local authorities who were identified by the Government to receive funding for much-needed improvements to two of the borough’s parks and greenspaces.

To celebrate the completion of works, local school children and volunteers joined Cllr Ian Moncur and staff from Green Sefton at the newly renamed space on Seaforth Road, now known as ‘Seaforth Green’.

The space was renamed following engagement with residents and the aim is to help create more of an identify within the local community.

Tree planting

Over 42 new trees have been planted at Seaforth Green, adding colour and year-round interest to the space, improving air quality, and over time, creating a barrier between the park and the busy road.

On the day, school children and local volunteers helped to pick litter, as part of Green Sefton’s work with charity Keep Britain Tidy to discourage litter and fly tipping.

The charity was commissioned as part of the funding to support the Council in its delivery of a community engagement campaign to build stronger ties between the parks and residents.

Poets Park

Meanwhile, at Poets Park, with the additional support of Ward Councillor funding, 41 new trees have been planted. The trees will provide more shade, help improve air quality and support wildlife in the area.

New site signage has also been installed at the park.

Cllr Moncur, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Sefton Council said: “Every park and greenspace in our Borough provides an important community space for residents, and it’s fantastic to see improvement works delivered for Poets Park and Seaforth Green.

“It was great to see local school children get involved on the day, and we look forward to people of all ages benefiting from the improved greenspaces.”
