Latest Updates

Based on a consultation exercise undertaken in Spring 2022, Les Transformations de Southport Phase 1 public realm scheme comprising of a new streetscape layout for Market Street, King Street and Eastbank Street was developed. These works will comprise of footway widening and new footway paving, new kerbing, new carriageway materials, new street furniture and tree planting with additional planted areas together with improved pedestrian crossings to create a significantly improved appearance on these streets.

Planned Construction

Works start on 6th January 2025 and are expected to last through to the Autumn of 2025.

How will this impact me?

During construction there will be several different footway and road closures at various times as the works progress. Unfortunately, there may be some delay to journey times as a result. Further details of these closures will be posted on this page as works progress, however a brief summary of the roads impacted are outlined below:

  • Market Street – Temporary closure of the road from King Street to Queen Anne Street. This is expected to happen in January until the end of the works in Autumn 2025.
  • Market Street – Between Queen Anne Street and Princess Street this will become open to 2-way traffic. This is a permanent change and expected to happen in January.
  • King Street - Temporary closure of the road from Eastbank Street to Market Street. This is expected to happen in January until the end of the works in Autumn 2025.
  • Eastbank Street – There will be traffic management with lane closures in effect, but there will be one lane open in each direction for the majority of the works.

The Council recognise that a scheme of this nature and size may cause disruption for some and would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause you and will endeavour to complete these works as soon as practical.

Please check back once the work has started for more detailed information about lane closures.
