The North Liverpool Key Corridor (NLKC) scheme began work on site in spring 2017. This is a joint initiative between Liverpool City Council and Sefton Council, in which Liverpool are the scheme promoter.
The scheme will deliver a modern fully ‘dualled’ road link on the A565 Great Howard Street and Derby Road between Millers Bridge in Sefton and Leeds Street in Liverpool. This should reduce congestion, improve access and reduce accidents along this key corridor. The parallel Regent Road will be resurfaced as part of the project and a two way cycle lane provided which will link with other cycle routes within Sefton and the City Centre.
Overall, the scheme will provide an important element of the future regeneration of North Liverpool and South Sefton.
Osborne were appointed as the Main Contractor for the scheme. They have completed works at Leeds Street junction, taking advantage of the closure of Great Howard Street which was required to facilitate bridge repairs. Work has subsequently progressed northwards on Great Howard Street and Derby Road. Drainage and kerbing works have also been completed on Regent Road, both to the south of the Bascule Bridge, but also in the section within Sefton.
Works are now progressing in the Sefton section of Derby Road, including the widening of the carriageway into areas of land which have either been secured by negotiation or using compulsory purchase powers. Some works within the existing carriageway are also required to install ducts and cables and these will necessitate lane restrictions and partial closure.
Carriageway surfacing works are planned for the junction of Derby Road/Millers Bridge over the next two weekends; Friday 7th – Monday 9th June and Friday 14th – Sunday 16th June. These works are an important element of the junction improvement works which form part of the North Liverpool Key Corridors Scheme and should allow the junction works to be completed in June.
Works will commence at 18:00 on each Friday. The first weekend includes a closure of part of Millers Bridge (between Derby and Regent Road). The second weekend will involve the closure of Balliol Road (between Stanley Road and Derby Road – albeit allowing access). Diversions routes will be in place.

The overall scheme should be completed in spring 2020.
